Possibly sick coyote spotted in Van Peenen Park

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report about a possibly sick and overly aggressive adult coyote spotted over the weekend in Van Peenen Park just north of Decorah.

A Decorah resident was walking his two dogs in Van Peenen on Rocky Road Trail.  The dogs were NOT attacked by the coyote, but the coyote followed them for several hundred yards.

Sheriff's deputies checked the area but could not find the coyote.

Several species of wild animals will have their young offspring with them and may be very protective if they feel threatened.  Sheriff's deputies are asking the public to report any unusual or sick acting wild animals to law enforcement agenices and to the Department of Natural Resources.
