Posted: Sun, Apr 21, 2013 7:16 PM

Six Decorah students have been recognized for their writing achievements by the Northeast Iowa Reading Council.

Among the top poets and writers from around the region were John Cline second grader Ada Lovelace; Carrie Lee third grader Robyn Dayton and fourth graders Cassie Wyatt and Cady Peterson; and Decorah Middle School fifth grader Nia Whitsitt and eighth grader Robert Berger.

Wyatt and Whitsitt were the regional winners for poetry at their grade levels, and both placed third at the state level for their contributions.  Wyatt was making a repeat appearance at the event, having been a winner in first grade as well.

Entering the creative writing division were Lovelace, Dayton, Peterson, and Berger, whose piece "Cyborg 2064" went on to win first place at the state level.  This was Berger's fourth entry in the Northeast Iowa Reading Council competition and his second state-level winning entry.
