City council delays action on Decorah Open Streets street closing request

The next session of Decorah Open Streets will be Sunday, June 9th--assuming the Decorah City Council gives its approval to closing Water Street from Winnebago Street to Mechanic Street on that date.

City council members Monday night reacted favorably to the request, but postponed a vote on the issue until May 6th.  That's because neighboring businesses that are open on Sundays had not been contacted about the street closing.

Event organizer David Paquette said the business owners have supported the Decorah Open Streets events in the past.  But city council member Paul Wanless asked for the vote to be postponed, asking "What's the point of informing (business owners) after the vote has been taken?"
