850 people have signed a petition calling on Winneshiek Medical Center to operate a clinic in Ossian.

Ossian leaders circulated the petition after Dr. Ignatius Green retired and Gundersen Clinic closed its Ossian clinic.

On Wednesday, Ossian resident Karl Schroeder told the hosdpital board "The southern end of the county needs to be taken care of."  He pointed to the many industries operating in Ossian, including Reilly Construction and the Farmers Union Cooperative.

Hospital board member Clark Goltz--an Ossian resident--said he was impressed by the 850 signatures.  "That is the population of Ossian," Goltz noted.

Schroeder said a building is available in Ossian that WMC could use to house a clinic.  He urged hospital officials to sit down with Ossian representatives to discuss the issue further.
