Winneshiek Medical Center reported a net gain of $170,840 in February. That pushed the hospital's 8-month fiscal year to date gain to $1,451,053.
Chief Financial Officer Lynn Luloff says one reason for the improved financial situation is a 23 percent increase in Medicare patient days at the hospital. That is also helped by a three percent increase in the reimbursement level of Medicare costs.
The hospital now has enough cash on hand to cover 58 days of operation--nearly twice what it had a few years ago.
