Survey shows obesity is the top community health concern

Winneshiek Medical Center has gotten 341 responses to its community health needs survey so far.

The hospital will hold another presentation Thursday on the survey--this time n Calmar.

In the meantime, preliminary results show te top two concerns among people who have aken the survey are adult obesity and childhood obesity.  Other health concerns were diabetes, high out-of-pocket medical costs,heart disease, skipping medical care because of cost concerns, nutrition questions, cancer, drug abuse and the lack of affordable medical insurance.

Hospital officials were happy that 93 percent of those taking the survey said ambulance response time was either "no problem" or "a minor problem."

After a final compilation of survey results, Winneshiek Medical Center officials will hold further meetings with community leaders to discuss what steps should be taken in the future.
