Organizers of the Decorah Community Meal are announcing that the program will expand to twice monthly meals beginning in April.
For just over a year, the Decorah Community Meal has brought together people from all walks of life to enjoy a free, quality meal and social time in the fellowship hall of First Lutheran Church. Along the way, numerous individuals, community groups, organizations and businesses have stepped in to keep the meals running, providing food, volunteers, financial support, storage space, transportation, time and encouragement.
Restaurant owner Jim McCaffrey and his team at Dolce Vita have been instrumental in the meal's launching and on-going success, generously donating the main entree every month, often including breads and vegetables.
Each month's "sponsor" group then rounds out the meal with salads and desserts, and also supplies two teams of volunteers to set up, to replenish serving tables, and to clean up.
The meal has served anywhere from 90 to 190 people each month.
Now, Sodexo-Luther College has agreed to provide food for a second meal each month.
Under the new schedule, the Decorah Community Meal will be held on the first and third Thursdays of every month from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First Lutheran Church in Decorah. The next meals will be April 4th, with Sodexo-Luther College Norse Culinary Team, and April 18th, with McCaffrey's Dolce Vita. All are welcome.
If your group, business, church, or civic organization would like to participate in the Decorah Community Meal, please send a message to decorahcommunitymeal@gmail.com.
