Girl Scouts delay vote on closing Camp Tahigwa

Camp Tahigwa has gotten a reprieve.

A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois had been scheduled to meet Thursday morning to discuss a committee recommendation to close Camp Tahigwa and three other camps owned by the Girl Scouts.

But the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois has agreed to delay that board meeting and instead come up with a new recommendation from the council's property committee.

The agreement came as five supporters of the Girl Scout camps went to court in Scott County to seek an injunction against the closings.  The five withdrew their request for an injunction after the Girl Scout council agreed to postpone tomorrow's board meeting.  The five are still seeking a court ruling on the issue of whether the sale of the camps must be put up to a vote of the council's 5,600 voting members.

Girl Scout officials say they will release a statement later on Wednesday that will explain how the issue will be handled moving forward.
