Calmar man ticketed following two-car accident

A Calmar man has been issued two traffic citations after his car collided with another car on Highway 52 near Townline Road shortly after midnight Monday

Jason Smith of Calmar was cited for having defective tires and for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.  Police say those tires caused him to lose control and cross over the center line, striking a car driven by 56-year-old Alan Thornton of Decorah.  Thornton stopped his car and noticed that Smith was driving away.  He called police, who located Smith several miles away with damage to his car. 

Decorah Police say Smith "was not charged at this time for leaving the scene of an accident."  The damage did a total of $4,500 in damages.
