Volunteers of the Decorah PTO are busy planning Spell-a-Thon 2013 in an effort to raise money for the Decorah Schools. Students in grades K-6 will be collecting pledges over the next few weeks from family, friends and neighbors. Spelling tests will be given to all students the week of April 8th.
All students in grades K-6 who return their completed pledge envelope will have their name entered into a drawing at their school for a gift certificate from a local merchant. The classroom that collects the most pledges at each school will be awarded a pizza party. And the student who raises the most pledges will receive $100.
In 2009 and 2011, this event raised approximately $28,000 each year. Some of the programs we supported with those funds were supplementing Decorah Schools Library Collections, West Side/Community Natural Playground, Kid Striders, College Scholarships, a Spotlight in the Carrie Lee Elementary Auditorium, as well as many other programs and teacher specific requests at each school.
Proceeds from this year's fundraiser will help fund upcoming Author Visits, Special Events, Theatre Performances, the Back-to-School Pool Party, and other general needs and purposes of our schools. We work on a 2-year budget determined by the success of the Spell-a-thon event.
If you would like to support our schools and make a supplemental donation to the PTO Spell-a-Thon, please contact Dominique Bockman at 382-8628.
