The SCI CAN Foundation started by Luther College student Chris Norton has had several successes recently. It raised over $30,000 to pay for a special rehabilitation bike it donated to Winneshiek Medcial Center. In December a fundraiser in Altoona raised over $55,000 in contributions, with the money helping to support rehab programs at three Des Moines area hospitals.
Now the SCI CAN Foundation wants to help a former Decorah High School student. Abby Theisen was paralyzed in an accident May 8th of 2010 on Clay Hill Road in Decorah. She graduated from Decorah High School, but recently has been spending time in Chicago for more therapy.
Chris Norton says SCI CAN and a Luther College fraternity are sponsoring a fundraiser April 3rd. Pizza Ranch will donate 10 percent of its sales that day to SCI CAN, with the money helping Theisen pay for her rehab.
