Upper Explorerland employee wins statewide award

Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission Regional Safe Routes to School Liaison Ashley Christensen has been awarded the Iowa Department of Public Health's "Excellence in Physical Activity Award."

The statewide award recognizes one individual in Iowa who has shown commitment and passion in the area of physical activity. Christensen will be recognized at the annual Governor's Conference on Public Health in Ames on April 9th and 10th.

Christensen has been working enabling and encouraging students to safely walk and bicycle to and from school.  Partnering with the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative, Christensen serves over 10,000 students in Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek counties in Northeast Iowa.
