Decorah High School sophomore Lydia Dawley has received the 2013 President's Volunteer Service Award from Prudential Financial.

Lydia was recognized for traveling and speaking at colleges and public forums in Iowa and Nebraska to advocate for people with disabilities.  She also spoke with Congressman Tom Latham and U.S. Senator Tom Harkin on behalf of people with disabilities.

Decorah High School Principal Kim Sheppard said, "We are very proud of Lydia's work to share her message related to the challenges individuals with disabilities face on a daily basis.  She has been and will continue to be a very positive ambassador with a very special message."

Lydia will be formally recognized at the DHS Student Awards program that is held in May.
