Proposed Winneshiek County budget for 2013-2014 would lower property tax rate

The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors has completed their work on the county's 2013-2014 budget.  They will be holding a public hearing on the proposed budget at noon on March 11th on the third floor of the Courthouse. 

The proposed budget lowers the levy rate for rural residents by 30 cents--from $8.80 per $1,000 of assessed valuation this year to $8.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation next year.  It lowers the levy rate for property in incorporated areas (cities) by 53 cents from $7.08 per $1,000 of assessed valuation this year to $6.55 per $1,000 of assessed valuation next year
