More bike racks will go up in downtown Decorah this spring

Decorah bike riders will get three new places to park their bikes this spring.

Alliant Energy will permit the City of Decorah to place a bike rack in front of the offices of the utility on Water Street.  The bike rack will have to be bolted down and will have to be installed away from the windows of the office, but otherwise Alliant is willing to have its property used by bike riders.

City of Decorah officials have also tentatively approved plans to install a bike rack in the first parking spot on the west side of Winnebago Street, south of Water Street, and somewhere in the city-owned parking lot next to the NE Iowa Montessori School.

The board of the Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) has pledged a donation of $1,000 toward the cost of additional bike racks.
