only on decorahnews.com: Resale of East Side School bricks by OHFA has been a money loser

After the East Side School was torn down, local volunteers saved many of the bricks from the school.  The hope was that the sale of bricks from the school would help fund historic preservation activities in the area.

Instead, the group has lost money.  In a letter to Winneshiek County officials, Oneota Historic Future Alliance representatives admit "The expenses of that adventure have exceeded any earnings."  The loss of money was cited as one of the reasons OHFA does not have funds to pay the $10,400 cost of demolishing the Caretaker's House at Wellington Place, a cost that was incurred by contract between OHFA and Winneshiek County.
