The Winneshiek Medical Center, in response to a request from Ossian residents (via the Crown Club) that the center consider providing medical services to the area has invited the group to appear with their requests before the board. This could happen as early as next month but a firm date was not set. The board wholeheartedly endorsed the request to be heard, noting that they were part of the county service area.
Chief Administrative Officer Gretchen Dahlen said that the request for services was fully consistent with Mayo philosophies, but there would be lots of parameters involved and that the question would ultimately be related to making the business side of things work. At this time there is not a request for specific services and the board avoided discussion that would be based on insufficient information.
The issue has arisen because of the community void left when Gundersen Lutheran announced the closing of their Ossian Clinic upon the retirement of Dr. Ignatius Green.
