Five businesses and organizations received awards Monday from Winneshiek County Development.

The organization gave "Impact Awards" to Northeast Iowa Community College, the Decorah Fish Hatchery and the Decorah Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic.  NICC was honored for having 370 employees and serving students and community members in Northeast Iowa.  The Fish Hatchery was honored for raising 175,000 trout each year, which has a dramatic impact on tourism.  The VA Clinic was honored for serving nearly 1,000 veterans since it opened last year in the former Wal-Mart building.

Toppling Goliath received the "Pioneer Award," which is given to a new business which began operation in the last five years.  The award noted that Toppling Goliath is well on its way to becoming a regional brewery.

Winneshiek County Recycling was honored with the "Sustainability Award," which recognized the organization's efforts to operate according to green standards.
