Shear Wonders in Decorah raised $228

The Winneshiek County Celebration of Life has something to celebrate.  The non-profit group, which raises money to pay for free mammograms for deserving women in the area, says it raised over $20,000 in the fourth quarter of 2012 through several events.

The 15th annual Celebration of Life fund raiser at the Elks Lodge in Decorah in October raised a total of $ 18,237, with all the money staying in Northeast Iowa because all the free mammograms are performed at Winneshiek Medical Center and Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah Clinic.

The second annual cut-a-thon at Shear Wonders in Decorah raised $228 by completing as many haircuts as possible in one day, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated.

Curves owner Sue Brodrick donated $200 to WCCOL, which represented one month of new membership fees.

Eclips sold pink bracelets to customers and donated $175 to WCCOL.  Throughout the year, customers who wear their pink bracelet to their appointments will receive special discounts.

Winneshiek County Celebration of Life promotes awareness and early detection of disease through education and financial support of preventative and screening services.  Free mammogram screenings are offered three times annually at both Winneshiek Medical Center and Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah Clinic. The application is a simple one-page form available at www.winneshiekcol.com or www.winmedical.org or www.gundluth.org/Decorah.  Applications for the free screenings are also available at Margaret's Clothing Store, Winneshiek Medical Center, Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah Clinic.
