The Winneshiek County Celebration of Life has something to celebrate. The non-profit group, which raises money to pay for free mammograms for deserving women in the area, says it raised over $20,000 in the fourth quarter of 2012 through several events.
The 15th annual Celebration of Life fund raiser at the Elks Lodge in Decorah in October raised a total of $ 18,237, with all the money staying in Northeast Iowa because all the free mammograms are performed at Winneshiek Medical Center and Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah Clinic.
The second annual cut-a-thon at Shear Wonders in Decorah raised $228 by completing as many haircuts as possible in one day, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated.
Curves owner Sue Brodrick donated $200 to WCCOL, which represented one month of new membership fees.
Eclips sold pink bracelets to customers and donated $175 to WCCOL. Throughout the year, customers who wear their pink bracelet to their appointments will receive special discounts.
