Decorah Lions Club members have learned more about the services offered by the Tri-County Unit of the American Red Cross of the Tri-States. Unit Manager Gabriel White recently told Lions Club members the Tri-County Unit serves Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek counties through 30 current volunteers.
White said the most visible service provided by the Red Cross in the area has been the response to house fire victims. Food, clothing, shelter and a comfort kit have been offered to at least nine families who experienced fires in their homes in recent months.
The unit can also serve military families with emergency communications or financial assistance. Two area volunteers went to the east coast to assist with recovery efforts in response to Hurricane Sandy.
The American Red Cross also provides first aid, CPR training and other health and safety courses and conducts blood drives.
