BREAKING NEWS: Two administrators dismissed at Aase Haugen Homes

Posted: Wed, Jan 23, 2013 3:56 PM

More changes at Aase Haugen Homes in Decorah.

The Board of Directors of the nursing home on Wednesday voted to terminate the employment of Aase Haugen Home Administrator Sue Bjelland.  In addition the board voted to eliminate the position of Director of Development, a position that had been created on a year-by-year basis.  .

Aase Haugen Homes Board President Steve Langland says the nursing home has contracted with Continuum Health Care of Ankeny to provide administrative services.

The dismissals of the two administrators follow (but are not necessarily related to) the dismissal of Office Manager Nancy Elsbernd in November.  Elsbernd was later charged with first degree theft for allegedly stealing over $55,000 from the nursing home.

(Editor's note: In our initial posting of this story, the "$" key was hit twice, causing the theft amount to briefly read "$455,000."  This figure was caught and corrected upon proofreading the story a very short time later.  We apologize for our error.  Once again, the correct figure is $55,000.)
