A profile of one of the two candidates for Luther College President

Ann Hill Duin was a music major with an English minor when she graduated from Luther College in 1977.  After graduation she spent four years teaching english, first in Iowa, then in Japan.  When she returned to the U.S., she headed to the University of Minnesota, where she received a master's degree from the College of Education in 183 and a doctoral degree in 1986.

The University of Minnesota hired her in 1983 as an advanced composition coordinator, then she progressed to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Full Professor.  She left the Twin Cities for a similar job at Iowa State in 1999, but returned to St. Paul in 2002.  Currently she has a number of titles: professor of writing studies at the College of Liberal Arts, Director of Graduate Studies, Scientific and Technical Communication Program and College of Liberal Arts visiting professor at the Center for Learning Innovation at the University of Minnesota-Rochester.

Her scholarship focuses on the impact of emerging technologies, including learning analytics and networked learning, on the future of higher education.  She has recently created an eBook entitled "Cultivating Change in the Academy: 50+ Stories from the Digital Frontlines."  Duin has served as a pioneer in the use of technology in education at the University of Minnesota and has lectured widely in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
