Performances of "Alice in Wonderland" begin Thursday

Posted: Wed, Jan 16, 2013 5:12 PM

"Alice in Wonderland" will come to life starting Thursday at the New Minowa Players Theatre in Decorah.

Based on the classic Lewis Carroll story, the play describes how Alice falls asleep beneath a tree and wakes up to a new and strange world.  A rabbit hops by, pulls out his pocket watch, and tells her not to be late.  Together they tumble down a rabbit hole and find a world full of surprises.   There are strange potions and a world that seems to shrink and expand before Alice's eyes.  She meets a duchess who loves pepper and a mad hatter hosting a mad tea party.  There are mock turtles, oysters, caterpillars, butterflies, and strange, talking birds.  Alice even encounters a queen who leads a deck of cards in a game of croquet.

Because the annual family show tends to draw a large audience, it will be presented seven times, spanning two weekends.  The show will be presented at the New Minowa Players Theatre at 906 South Mill Street at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2:00 p.m. Sunday this weekend and 7:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday next weekend and 2:00 p.m. next Saturday.

Tickets are available at Oneota Co-op in Decorah.  Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door one hour before each performance.  Audience members are encouraged to get their tickets early as tickets tend to go fast for the family show.
