Schools officials reported to the School Board Monday night that a new school bus tracking system will soon be operational, hopefully in early February. The system, known as EDULOG, will allow the district to track locations of school buses, as well as monitor the access and departure of students from a specific bus. Each student will be issued a bus rider identifying card, and access to and from buses will be able to be tracked.
Imagine a parent waiting downtown for their child after school when a dental appointment was scheduled, but no student shows up. At that point the tracking system will be able to tell if the student got on a school bus after school, and if so, where that student exited the bus.
Drivers and other school officials will soon begin training regarding the new system. School officials have not yet determined the extent to which the system will be used beyond regular daily school bus routing, such as for out of town activities.
