The Decorah School Board has set February 11, 6:00 p.m. as the public hearing date for comments regarding their anticipated request to start school before the September 1 earliest school starting date as established by state law.
While the state law seems worthy of note, virtually all Iowa school districts request a waiver to start school earlier than that date. Last year some parents unsuccessfully initiated some efforts to delay the early start of school in Decorah. There were discussions in the state legislature to that effect also, but no new legislation was enacted.
School officials plan to propose and enact a start date at that February meeting.
