A Decorah teenager has learned the wisdom of obeying the speed limit.

17-year-old Nolan Watson admitted to Decorah Police on Wednesday morning that he was driving 50 to 60 miles an hour on Ice Cave Road.  The speed limit is 25.

When Watson saw the speed limit sign, he slammed on the brakes, lost control of his car and left the roadway, striking a tree.  Watson suffered a broken arm and scratches to the face in the accident.  He was also ticketed for Failure to Maintain Control.  The accident caused $7,000 in damages to the vehicle.
