City of Decorah will start advertising soon for a new Park-Rec Director

A revised job description for the Decorah Park-Rec Director position was presented to the Decorah City Council on Monday night.

The job description says the director will be responsible for the vision of the Park-Rec Department, for its budget, for community outreach and for program development.  The new job description removes language assigning the day-to-day operation of the swimming pool to the Director.

City council member Randy Schissel complained about the new job description, saying the new director would be "a glorified meeting person who will cost us a lot of money."  Schissel argued that the Park-Rec Department "has evolved to a point where we don't need this position."

But city council member Rachel Vagts pointed out that when Schissel had raised similar concerns at committee meetings, his opinion "was a minority position."  City council members informally agreed to proceed with posting the job opening and job description.  Applications will be accepted until the end of February, with a hiring expected in the spring.
