Mr. Answer Person says: "By way of explanation, the laundromat has been the topic of a series of letters to the editor to the Decorah Newspapers in recent weeks, with the letter writers complaining of the conditions at the laundromat.

According to the Assessor's Office's Beacon website, the property at 209 College Drive--which includes the Highlander Laundromat--was purchased by Dan Spilde of 305 Mound Street in Decorah in 2000 at a price of $130,000.  The 4,348 square foot building is assessed at $63,460, while the 16,400 square foot lot is assessed at $47,700.
