ArtHaus, downtown Decorah's home for the visual and performing arts, on Monday will begin a new session of dance classes for young dancers age 3 to 16.
"Beginning Tap Dance" for students ages 7-9 starts at 3:30 p.m. Monday, with a walking school bus available for any student coming from John Cline Elementary to ArtHaus for after-school classes. Tap I, for students age 9 and older, also starts at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Instructor Laurie Walter leads students in energetic Broadway steps and rhythm style tap combinations.
Ballet I, for students age 10 and up, begins at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Students will learn or continue their study of ballet terminology and technique through dance combinations at the barre and center. Instruction will be tailored to students' individual level of experience. New and returning students are welcome in this ballet class for tweens and teens.
Three Saturday morning dance classes are offered at ArtHaus beginning January 12th. The popular Pre-school Ballet and Tap, and Ballet and Tap for ages 5-6 are nearly full, but there is still room in Beginning Ballet for ages 7-9, from 11:00 a.m. until noon.
All ballet and tap classes at ArtHaus are led by teaching artist Laurie Walter in ten week sessions.
For students interested in other dance forms, ArtHaus programming includes Skape Sammen (creative dance and xylophone ensemble for ages 9-12) beginning January 21; European Folk Dance (for ages 12 and up) beginning in February; Movin' and Groovin' (a parent/child movement class for age 2-4), Creative Movement (for ages 4-5); and Choreography (for ages 9-12) all beginning in April.
Thanks to support from Friends of ArtHaus and the McElroy Trust, scholarships are available for any student in need of tuition assistance. For more information, to register, or inquire about scholarships, visit arthausdecorah.org, or call ArtHaus at 563.382.5440.
