Carpeting has been removed, ceiling tiles removed, plasterboard removed and even one sink has been removed

Having someone use a hotel room as a place to make methamphetamine is turning into an expensive ordeal for the owners of the Bluffs Inn.

The business has worked hard to repair the damage done by methamphetamine fumes.  It hired a Servicemaster crew from Cedar Rapids to rip out the walls and ceilings of the rooms affected.  Many rooms of the hotel's annex were gutted, with ceiling tiles, plaster board and carpeting all being removed--and even plumbing fixtures in one room.  The removal is necessary to remove the meth fumes from the facility.

Owners of the motel say the demolition is now complete and crews will soon be hired to restore the rooms to useable condition.  They are working with their insurance company to get paid for the expenses incurred because of the meth lab in the motel room.

Mobile meth labs in hotel rooms have become a growing headache across Iowa and the United States.  For instance, a Storm Lake man was recently arrested on charges of using a hotel room in that community as a place to locate a meth lab.
