Police report says Decorah woman admitted taking money from Aase Haugen Homes for 5-6 years

Court documents filed in the case of a 64-year-old Decorah woman accused of taking money from Aase Haugen Homes include a police statement that Nancy Elsbernd has admitted the crime.

According to the report, the thefts involved over $55,000 and occurred over a period of five or six years.

Police were called to the Aase Haugen Home on November 14th.  The police investigation resulted in charges of first degree theft and ongoing criminal conduct being filed against Elsbernd, who had worked for 36 years at the nursing home.  Bond has been set at $25,000 in the case.  A preliniary hearing on the Class C felony charges has been scheduled for next Monday, January 7th.
