A decision on the fate of the North BUilding at Wellington Place will wait until 2013 and a new county board.
Members of the current county board voted 3-2 on Monday morning to table the issue until the 2013 county board--which will have four new members--can discuss it. Supervisors Bill Ibanez, Lonnie Pierce and Steve Bouska voted in favor of the motion to table the issue, while Les Askelson and John Logsdon opposed it.
Before the vote, Ibanez and Logsdon had a spirited discussion. Ibanez accused Logsdon of "a rush to judgement," but Logsdon countered that there had been "a multitude of public input" on the issue. When Ibanez questioned whether Logsdon was "working for Wellington Place or the county?" Logsdon called Ibanez's statement "a little bit offensive."
When questions arose about the details of a possible demolition of the building, Pierce stated "there are just not enough firm numbers here." On a 3-2 vote, the majority of the county board agreed with him and decided to pass along the issue to the next county board.
