Asbestos bids awarded to two contractors pave way for winter break projects at High School

In a slightly unusual move Monday night the Decorah School Board awarded two separate asbestos removal bids for projects beginning on December 22.  AAA Budget Environmental was awarded a bid of slightly over $12,000 and Environmental Management Service of Iowa was awarded a bid of $8,700. The companies will work on separate areas at the same time in order to complete the projects before school starts in January.  Officials said that the areas – including the current kitchen and adjacent classrooms, the Study Hall, East Hallway space and adjacent classes – are all self contained areas so that traffic in the school during break will not be affected.
