The Winneshiek Medical Center Board of Trustees this week will discuss plans to recruit a new Chief Medical Officer at the hospital, replacing Dr. Susan Halter, who came to the hospital in February of 2011.
Dr. Halter is a graduate of Michigan State University and the University of Madison. She came to Decorah from La Crosse, where she worked for Gundersen Lutheran Health Systems, retired, but then was persuaded by Mayo Clinic Health Systems to come out of retirement.
Dr. Halter was hired as Interim Chief Medical Officer to replace Dr. Kurt Carlson while the hospital searched for a permanent replacement, but was persuaded to stay on as Chief Medical Officer for a longer term.
At its regular monthly meeting at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, hospital board members are expected to discuss setting up a search committee to find a permanent replacement for Dr. Halter.
