James Heying has won the Iowa Special Olympics greeting card contest for this year. James was one of 20 Special Olympics athletes who submitted drawings about what they like most about the Special Olympics. His illustration featured his favorite sports, including bowling, ice skating, swimming and javelin throw. Special Olympics staff and board members will send the cards out this holiday season to thank individuals, businesses and others for their support of Iowa Special Olympics.
James' teacher, Michelle Monreal, encouraged James to do a drawing when she learned of the contest in September. Officials confirmed James as the winner in October. James simply says, "Drawing is one of the things I do best." James is a 17 year old student at Decorah High School.
