With snow on the way, City of Decorah is reminding the public about sidewalk rules

Friday's weather forecast calls for a 20 to 30 percent chance of snow, while Saturday's and Sunday's forecasts also include a chance of snow.

So this reminder from the City of Decorah is timely--all property owners are responsible for promptly removing snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property.

City code allows the city to remove snow and ice to eliminate public nuisances--and then to charge the property owners for all costs and administrative fees.

Neighbors and members of the public can also report unshoveled sidewalks to the City Clerk's Office by e-mailing hemesath#decorahia.org

City officials are also reminding the public that whenever the city experiences a snowfall of one inch or more, a snow emergency shall automatically be in effect.  That means all vehicles must park on the EVEN NUMBERED side of their street until snow is cleared from the opposite side, then move to the ODD NUMBERED side of the street until the snow is cleared from the remaining half.  When both sides have been plowed, normall parking resumes.  This procedure takes the place of ALL posted parking restrictions.
