A benefit at T-Bock's Sports Bar & Grill in Decorah has raised over $1,000 for thegroup "Allamakee County Protectors," which is fighting plans for frac sand mining in the county. The money will help offset the costs of archeological and attorney fees.
Allamakee County Protectors is currently opposing a proposed mining facilityin Sand Cove, an area rich in ecological diversity, archaeological importanceand rare Tallgrass Prairie plant species. The Sand Cove site is sittingon top of major deposits of sand, which is necessary for the process ofHydraulic Fracturing, or "fracking," of oil deposits.
