Winneshiek County Public Health reminds you about the importance of flu vaccine

Posted: Thu, Nov 29, 2012 6:39 PM

Winneshiek County Public Health officials are reminding the public that the County Health office still has flu vaccine available and is accepting walk-ins at their office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is not too late to receive the immunity from the vaccine.

Influenza has been confirmed in Iowa and reports of residents of Winneshiek County experiencing influenza like symptoms have been shared by medical providers. Influenza symptoms may include: fever, chills, sore throat, muscle or body aches, fatigue, or a cough.

Complications may occur with the flu and can lead to pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinus and ear infections. The flu makes chronic health problems get worse. The severity of the flu is unpredictable and can vary from one season to the next.

Your best form of protection is the vaccination as well as getting adequate rest, good hand washing, and good nutrition.

Get your vaccination as soon as possible to be ready to be with family over the Christmas holiday. You may also ask your healthcare providers as well.

If any questions, feel free to call 563-382-4662.
