decorahnews.com reader Jerry Aulwes has spotted something he says he's never seen before--a treet growing on the inside of another tree.
Crews recently cut down several trees north of the Decorah levee, complying with recommendations from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. One of the trees they cut down was a cottonwood that had decayed on the inside. That gave enough space that a second tree was able to grow in the decayed core of the first tree.
