October was cool and wet in Decorah

Temperatures in Decorah in October were below average for the first time in the past 12 months.

Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says the average temperature of 48.3 degrees was 2.0 degrees lower than the average for October.  Compared to the 116 years for which October temperature data is available, 83 Octobers were warmer than October of 2012, one was the same and 31 were cooler.

Bernatz says we received 2.96 inches of precipitation in October--0.71 inches more than average.  The last time Decorah received above average rainfall was in April.  For the past 12 months, Decorah still has a precipitation deficit of 4.76 inches.
