U.S. Senator Tom Harkin campaigned in Decorah Wednesday night

With less than a week to go before the election, U.S. Senator Tom Harkin told a crowd of three dozen Winneshiek County Democrats on Wednesday that now is the time to work on mobilizing Democratic voters to get to the polls.

Harkin visited the Democratic Party headquarters in Decorah on Wednesday night.  His appearance was in support of Democrat John Beard's run for State Senate.  Harkin called Beard "a proud progressive."  He said that many issues that came before the last session of the State Senate were decided by one vote, so it's important to elect Beard.

Harkin also used the appearance to ask the Democrats to vote for Barack Obama for president.  Harkin told the audience that he has been "fed up with the duplicity" of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
