Luther College hopes to have selected a new president by the end of next February.
To assist in the task of finding a new leader, Luther has hired a search firm, AGB Search. Senior consultant Bruce T. Alton says Luther "is casting the net as far as (it) can" in the search for a new president.
To do that, Alton's firm is contacting "all the usual suspects," he says. The new Luther College president must be a member of the ELCA, so that excludes 98.5 percent of the population. So Alton's firm has been contacting the 30 or so Lutheran colleges in the United States, as well as Lutheran ministers on other college campuses.
Alton says that while the search is trying to contact as many potential candidates as possible "we're somewhat selective" in which candidates will make the first cut. Applications are due to the search committee on or before Monday, November 5th. A website has been set up explaining the presidential search: http://www.luther.edu/presidentialsearch/
