Reader e-mail: Bike-related safety items would make good Christmas gifts

As I was raking leaves yesterday, a man came by on a bicycle and turned north by the First Lutheran Church.  He had a great, very visible red light/turn signal behind the bicycle seat.  

As I continued raking, it came to me that a promotion for Christmas could be presents for bicycle safety equipment.    Old bicycles, new bicycles, kids' bicycles, adults' bicycles all need them.  

Other items could be for joggers, walkers as well as bicyclists---shoes with reflective tape on heels and toes, reflective tape to put on cross straps from one shoulder to the waist, you would know of more.   As a driver,  it is really scary to suddenly see someone right next to my fender when it is dark.
