Luther College has reported a decrease in the number of crimes on its campus.
All colleges and universities are required by the federal government to file a report on the number of crimes committed on their campuses. The so-called "Clery Act" report is filed annually. Luther College has just disclosed its crime statistics for 2011, as required by the law.
Those statistics show a total of 175 crimes on campus in 2011, compared to 240 crimes during 2010. In both years the vast majority of crimes involved alcohol and drug abuse. There were 153 liquor law violations and 19 drug law violations in 2011—down from 2010's 220 liquor law violations and 19 drug law violations.
Luther officials report one forcible sex offense and one aggravated assault during 2011—a decline from 2010's report of just one forcible sex offense.
