County supervisors approving first reading of new winter road maintenance policy

The Winneshiek County Board has approved the first reading of a new winter road maintenance policy.

The policy has an entire new section dealing with "Winter Weather Emergencies."  The language in the section gives the county the right to "selectively reduce service" to a road or roads during a winter storm.  The policy affects only county roads designated "Class A roads."  "Class B' and "Class C" roads will not be affected.

The new policy will not go into effect until a third reading of the policy is held and the document is published in area newspapers.
