Four townships are in Supervisor District #4

Voters in four southeastern townships in Winneshiek County will elect a District #4 supervisor.  Incumbent John Logsdon faces a challenge from Democrat Clark Goltz.

Logsdon points to his record as a supervisor when asking voters to return him to office.  He has worked as the County Board's representative to the Wellington Place board at a time the nursing home has added an assisted living addition.  He coordinated the county's takeover of the Recycling Program, which now has been recognized as the best county-run recycling program in the state.  He has also been active in the Solid Waste Commssion.

Goltz points to his experience as "a son, father, teacher and principal."  He has worked as a principal in Decorah and in South Winneshiek.  He currently serves as a member of the Winneshiek Medical Center's Board of Trustees.  Goltz says he would be guided by "commitment, collaboration and community" if elected to the county board.

The two candidates differ on the question of transparency for the county board, with Logsdon saying "The board is very transparent" and Goltz saying "We can improve on it."

The two agree on the question of the county's subsidy of Winneshiek Medical Center, with Logsdon saying the county support is "a bargain" and Goltz saying the hospital "belongs to Winneshiek County."

On the question of spending, Goltz advocates asking county employees for money-saving suggestions, while Logsdon says he's always believed in running county government like a business.

Finally, the two hold similar views on the zoning of confined animal feeding operations, with Logsdon saying the county's recommendations are often ignored by the DNR and Goltz saying he favors greater input by county boards into the DNR's decisions.
