The Northeast Iowa Peace & Justice Center is sponsoring a program at 7:00 p.m. Thursday about frac sand mining in Northeast Iowa.
The issue has come to the forefront because of a proposal for a frac sand mining operation south of New Albin in Allamakee County.
Frac sand mining opponent Ric Zarwell from Athe group "Allamakee County Protectors" will speak in Decorah Thursday night about frac sand mining in general and the proposed site in Allamakee County in particular.
The Minnesota Sands Company, LLC this week withdrew its conditional use permit application for the sand mine operation. Company officials say they need more time to consult with the Allamakee County Engineer.
The Allamakee County Board of Adjustment will meet next Wednesday, but will not discuss the application.
