I don't think I have ever seen as many Iowa State Patrol officers in one location as I did in Ossian on Tuesday.
It was impressive to see how many police officers were on the scene near where a drive-by shooting suspect was holed up. This manpower was critical in helping to produce a good outcome of Tuesday's shooting.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa State Patrol set up a unified command center in Ossian, one that involved not just police officers but tactical units from the State Patrol and Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department.
When a suspect was captured and when a search revealed there was no more threat to the public, the day ended well. We have a number of agencies to thank for that--especially the way they worked together to make sure the day ended safely.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department and Iowa State Patrol were assisted by Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearams; Calmar Police Department; Clayton County Sheriff's Department; Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement; Decorah Police Department and Dispatch Center; Fayette County Sheriff's Department; Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation; Iow Division of Narcotic Enforcement; Ossian Fire Department First Responders and Fire Department; Winneshiek County Ambulance Service and Winneshiek County Attorney.
