23-year-old Dan Wildman of Cresco has been taken into custody in connection with shots being fired near the South Winneshiek High School in Calmar.
The Iowa State Patrol and Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department were involved in a search for Wildman Tuesday morning after shots were reported. Wildman was apprehended in a corn field a few miles east of Ossian on Tuesday morning after he fled on a four wheeler.
Wildman is being held in the Winneshiek County Jail on outstanding warrants. Wildman previously was arrested in 2010 on seven counts of unlawful possession of buck deer and had been barred from purchasing a hunting license. He was on probation when he was arrested in 2010 on the hunting charges.
Winneshiek County Sheriff's deputies were issuing a search warrant Tuesday afternoon at a farm near Ossian as part of their investigation.
Although authorities had originally said they were looking for two suspects, they lifted the precautionary lock-downs at South Winneshiek, Postville, Valley and North Fayette schools after Wildman was taken into custody.
