Police officers have been searching for two suspects in a morning shooting

There has been a shooting in Ossian.

Sources tell decorahnews.com the shooting occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m.  Because of the gunshot, the Ossian Middle School/Elementary School was placed on lockdown, as was South Winneshiek High School in Calmar.

Two suspects in the shooting are wanted for an outstanding arrest warrant.  Police say the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.

Because police had information that the suspects might be heading southeast, the Postville schools have also been put on lockdown.  The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department is urging Ossian and Castalia residents to lock their doors and to make sure their cars are secured.

An airplane is currently being used to help police spot the two suspects.  The Iowa State Patrol and Calmar/Ossian Police are also on the scene, in addition to Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies.

Police are asking the public to call 9-1-1 with information about any suspicious activity in the Ossian and Castalia area.  The public should not approach the suspects, police say.
